That is the burning question in the back of every watchful Christian’s mind. When will He return? To get a better understanding of His 2nd coming, we must first look to circumstances surrounding His first coming.
We must first recognize His 2nd coming will consist of two events. The first is the Rapture, before the Tribulation, and the 2nd is His Physical return to Earth after the Tribulation on a White horse with all the saints behind Him. His first coming consisted of two events, His birth and the beginning of His ministry at age 30. At His birth there was “no room” for Him and He came in the “darkness of the night”.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. Luke 2:7-9
Does anyone have “room” for Jesus today? Has not the light of the church grown dimmer and dimmer? Jesus was also born into a generation that was unsuspecting of Him as seen in Matthew 2 when the wise men show up at the temple looking for the King.
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Mat. 2:2-3
How many Christians today are truly expecting Him? Prior to His birth, there was 400 years of famine for the Word of God (400 years between the book of Malachi and Matthew) prophesied in Amos.
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: Amos 8:11
Is there not a famine of God’s Word today? The are multiple versions of bibles on the market, many with verses deleted or changed from the original creating much confusion. The tried and true un-copyrighted King James 1611 Bible just recently turned 400 years old…..
Today’s world of instant information has given us a mental image of a chaotic life, an image of destruction, an image of fear, all in the anticipation that the foundations of the world will break down at any moment leading to Tribulation. But if we are honest, it is just that, a mental image. The quality of life today around most of the world is the best it has been since the creation of man. Don’t believe that, then pick another time period of history you would rather live in than now. Hopefully you will see the point I am trying to make in a minute.
Jesus said in Matthew 24:
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Everything we see today is the same that has been throughout history since Jesus made this statement…..except…..the convergence of all these events for the first time that we see clearly in the mental image of instant information painted by the media, will lead to the Tribulation at some point in the very near future.
Still don’t see it? Look at the Bubonic Plague of the middle ages that took the lives of some 75 to 200 million people. Look at the atrocities of Vlad the Impaler, Genghis Khan, Stalin, Hitler, and many others. Countless millions were murdered under their vicious reign. The 2004 Indian earthquake and resulting tsunami killed 230,000 people in one day. 9/11 lost over 3,000 lives in one day. One could continue on and one, but hopefully you see where this is headed.
Now to my point. Jesus said life would be just another ordinary day when He returns the 2nd time. Look what He says still in Matthew 24:
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 8 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
This passage does not speak to the Tribulation, but the Rapture. Look again. If this were just a very chaotic world, much less a world of Tribulation, people would not be “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage“, people would not be working the field or grinding at the mill during just another day at work; they would be running for their lives. Life was normal until Noah entered the Ark. Life will be normal until the Rapture. I did not say it; He did. Jesus says more:
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Clearly we are commanded to watch for He will come when we think not, in other words, just another ordinary day and He will come for His church.
Remember the events of September 2015 with the Blood Moons and the Shemitah? It was perhaps the most anticipated and covered events out of the Biblical academia concerning the end times. Even the secular community was aware of them, but the events came and went without even a whimper. That is not to nullify their importance, for their significance will be revealed in the Lord’s timing.
Since these events, I am sure many are now saying:
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
The Blessed Hope is not called Blessed for nothing. It is the Hope of the Blessing to be removed before the real ugliness starts at a time when “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. Luke 21:26 and at a time when at least 1/2 to 2/3rds of the worlds population will die.
Don’t let the spirit of the Antichrist rob you from the joy of life, the Joy of Christ, as he has done to so many already in these final days.
Jesus is still coming……
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Titus 2:13
