The internet is inundated with articles and videos concerning the coming Gog and Magog war. A major prophetic moment in time when God steps in to defend Israel His people from an onslaught of various people groups. Perhaps this moment will lead directly to the signing of the 7-year covenant with the Anti-Christ. But today, some are calling the current situation between Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah to be the beginning stages towards this prophetic war. However, we must let the scriptures be the final authority; always. The Word says that Israel will be at rest and dwelling safely. That will not happen until Israel has defeated many of its enemies from other war prophecies that have yet to play out. These other prophecies could happen very quickly or take some time to materialize.
After many days thou (Israel) shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. 9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. 10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: 11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, Eze. 38:8-11
Who are Gog and Magog? That is the question on everybody’s mind. Starting with Gog, the name itself presents tones of the supernatural. Og king of Bashan, the last of the remnant of the giants after the flood, was a major enemy of Israel and was king of the land that included the location of the infamous ‘Mount Hermon’, the mountain the watchers (fallen angels) of Genesis six descended upon that started the insurrection of hybrid giants before the flood leading up to the “Days of Noah”. Interestingly, ‘Og’ in the Hebrew means “mountain”. Moses defeated Og King of Bashan at Mount Hermon before being prohibited from crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. The Canaanites used Mount Hermon as a place of worship for the pagan god Baal, while temple sites have been discovered within its caves. The evil Nimrod had a fortress built on the mountain. At the base of Mount Hermon was the city of Caesarea Philippi and it was here that Peter declared Jesus was the “Christ” in the face of the enemy, indicating this was the portal/gateway or opening to hell.
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar–jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Mat. 16:13-18
The bible does not say what happened to the spirits of the giants that were killed after the flood. We do know the giants before the flood were dragged down to the depths of hell by the receding waters of the flood, so the spirits of the giants after the flood would be today’s demons or the disembodied spirits of the giants. Jesus cast out many demons during His ministry. Demons are not to be confused with fallen angels. Could it be that Gog is the reincarnated spirit of Og? Keep this in mind as we will come back to this later. (Revelation GOG and Magog)
There were giantsin the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. Genesis 6:4
Now let’s turn our attention to the countries mentioned.
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshechand Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libyawith them; all of them with shield and helmet: 6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmahof the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. Eze. 38:1-6
Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. Eze. 38:9
Persia (Iran), Ethiopia, and Libya are self-explanatory in the countries mentioned here. The word ‘Magog’ means “land of Gog” in the Hebrew. The “land of Magog” are the Caucasian descendants of Japheth, the 3rd son of Noah. After the flood, Noah’s sons dispersed and re-populated the earth. This is the best picture I could find depicting the dispersion after the flood. Magog is not a place, but a people group. The same goes for Gomer, a people group. The phrase “all his bands” is key in the preceding verses. This invasion is an alignment of the Caucasian Japhetic people groups that would include the European nations, including the United States, Britian, Russia, Germany, Spain, France, and of course Turkey.
Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sonsof Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. Genesis 10:1-5
This alignment of people groups will be there in the “north parts” doing something before they attack Israel. We are not told why they are there. Perhaps because of the destruction of Damascus (Isaiah 17) which is a stone throw away from Mount Hermon. At some point God will put hooks into the jaws of Gog turning him back to attack Israel.
And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Eze. 38:4
And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: Eze. 38:15
Could the “north parts” be the area of ancient Bashan, Mount Hermon from where King Og resided? Mount Hermon today has a Syrian – Lebanese border and the southern slopes of Mount Hermon extend to the Israeli-occupied portion of the Golan Heights.
And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: Eze 39:2
God will destroy Gog and all his bands.
Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. Eze. 39:4
Remember previously we spoke about Gog possibly being the reincarnated spirit of King Og of Bashan. Well, we just saw that Gog shall fall upon the mountains of Israel. However, we see Gog and Magog rise once again in Revelation 20:7-10 at the end of the 1,000-year Millennial reign.
And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in thefour quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Rev. 20:7-10
In this passage we see that Gog is perhaps re-incarnated again to lead the people groups of Magog to battle once more from the four quarters of the earth, not a particular country. To clarify, perhaps Gog is of a supernatural origin such as a specific demon (King Og or other) that possesses a human for each of the battles or it could even be a fallen angel. In this final battle, the devil and Gog, whatever he may be, will be annihilated never to return again. It is hard to see anyone currently in the news today such as Putin, Erdogan, etc. having the capabilities to lead such a large invading force against Israel. An invasion where God Himself must intervene to save them. For the invasion is so great they will burn the weapons of this enemy for seven years and the dead will be so great that Israel will take seven months and longer to bury the dead to cleanse the land. Perhaps not all enemies are of human origin. Make no mistake, the demons and fallen angels will play a tremendous role in the Tribulation and perhaps in the months leading up to it.
Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken. 9 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years: 10 So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD. Eze. 39:8-10
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamon–gog. 12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. 13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD. 14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search. 15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon–gog. 16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land. Eze. 39:11-16
