Today marks the 1st day of Passover and the 50 day countdown to Pentecost. In the book of Exodus chapter 12, Moses instructs the Jewish people to place the blood of a lamb on their door in 3 places in order to avoid the destroyer.

And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. Exodus 12:22-23

If we draw a line from each point on the door the blood was put, it would look like this.

It makes a triangle pointing up towards Heaven and represents the act of man looking towards God. Now fast forward to around 32 AD. Christ dies on the cross for all mankind leaving blood on the cross at the hands and feet.

Connecting the dots we can see an upside down triangle pointing down as a sacrifice from God to man.

Combine the two triangles and we have:

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. The Blood part II

The Blood of Jesus

 Previously we looked at blood as the life substance of the individual and how God requires a blood debt for any innocent blood shed. If that debt was not paid, there would come a time when God’s judgment would fall on the land that carried the debt. Now we will look at blood as the redeeming substance, the atonement for the soul.

Leviticus 17: 10-12 says 10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

God commanded the priest of the Old Testament to take a young bullock or lamb without blemish and sprinkle the blood seven times before the Lord as a sin offering unto the Lord (Leviticus 4: 1-6). God is the great record keeper of sin and the blood is offered to God, not man. The blood does not change man but changes God by applying a cleansing effect on the judgment God holds over us for sin. The Jewish priest made atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year Lev 16:34, but even this was temporary until sin could be atoned for by the blood of the one true and perfect sacrifice, Jesus Christ.

In the New Testament, Christ came to offer His blood for the atonement of our soul. When we sin against God, we come under a death sentence, our blood should be shed, but Jesus came in the flesh to obtain human blood in order to substitute His blood for ours. For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins Mat 26:28 . Christ’s blood was pure and innocent, and only innocent blood can atone. When Judas betrayed Jesus, he knew he had betrayed “innocent blood” (Matthew 27:1-5).

It is the shedding of blood that covers the debt of sin and nothing else. Hebrew 9:12-14 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Water baptism, works, praying a sinner’s prayer, repenting of all your sins, or any other form of atonement will not suffice. Remember from the previous paper there is no satisfaction for the guilty; there is only blood for blood….and without shedding of blood is no remission Heb 9:22. The only righteous blood since the fall of Adam was Jesus, and the only way we have a right to enter into the presence of God is by His blood.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus – Hebrews 10: 18-19.

The bible is packed full with scripture telling of the necessity for blood as the only atonement for sin. Below are just a few:

Act 20:28…. to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him

Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins

1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin

Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood

Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Remembers Abel’s blood crying out to God for vengeance after Cain had killed him? Jesus blood says vengeance is served; the debt is paid. Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

All peoples of the world have in their conscience recognized the need for shedding of blood to pay the guilt. Blood is retained on the head of rapist and murders in every country of the world. Many of the world religions have adopted some form of shedding of blood, much of the time by the way of human sacrifice with the blood running down and caught in a basin to be applied in some way for atonement. Witch doctors sit in front of a fire holding a chicken, slitting its’ throat and catching the blood in a cup and hands to the sinner to drink of its’ innocence while other groups take their babies and throw them to the crocodiles to eat, appeasing the river gods. This practice has happened throughout the entire world and the history of mankind.

Only Christianity teaches it is blood outside of our own that makes atonement. Only Christianity teaches that God Himself shed His own blood for the atonement of our soul, that there is no need to kill anything, but to accept the finished work; believe and live.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Of all the religions of the world, only the Gospel of Jesus Christ is simple enough that even a child can understand and believe. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life Jhn 3:16.

In the words of the late Grant R. Jeffery “As the prophetic clock ticks down toward the final midnight hour, the invitation of Christ is still open: Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me Rev 3:20.

Sometimes the Devil allows people to live a life free of trouble ’cause he doesn’t want them turning to God.

Your Sin is like a jail cell, except it’s all nice and comfy, and there doesn’t seem to be any need to leave.

The door’s wide open ’till one day, time runs out, and the cell door slams shut and suddenly… it’s too late.

Do you believe He shed His innocent blood for the atonement of your soul? Will you this minute, accept Jesus’ as your Lord and Savior…….or will you choose to let the door shut……

 

The Blood part 1

Blood – it is the source of life and the redeeming substance. All men are made from not one man, but from one blood Act 17:26. Old Testament saints were told to abstain from eating blood, for blood is the “life of all flesh” (Lev. 17:12-14). Any man found eating blood was put to death as God did not want them to eat the “life with the flesh” Deu 12:23. God breathed into Adam “the breath of life” that went into his blood giving him life and creating all nations of men from that one blood Gen 2:7.

In Act 15:20 the early Jewish church come together to decide what parts of the law should be observed by the gentiles. It was decided on three things: “they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood”. It is interesting to note these were already the commandments of God well before Moses and the Law came along.

Cain killed Abel and God had asked him “Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? 10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground” (Genesis 4:9-10). The pool of blood lying next to Abel was crying out for vengeance and God heard it. Any animal or man that killed another man was to be killed during the days of the Old Testament. Shortly after the flood, God blessed Noah and his sons and told them to “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” God also told them –

4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. Genesis 9:4-6

God also says there is no satisfaction for the life of a murderer. In other words there are no excuses for the murderer or justification by another means such as a monetary payment or prison term; only blood for blood. The very land where the murder has taken place is defiled and cannot be cleansed until the blood of the one that committed murder is taken.

31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.32 And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel. Numbers 35:31-34

If there was mercy shown on the murderer, then the blood would be on the heads of the inhabitants of that land (Deut. 19:10-13). The timeline for the defiling of the land without redeeming the blood debt of the murderer has no statue of limitations as in the following example. The latter part of King David’s reign suffered a famine for the innocent shedding of Gibeonite blood under King Saul 2Sa 21:1. So King David asked the Gibeonites what could be done to avenge the blood of the innocents and they asked for seven of the descendants of Saul. King David complied and the land was cleansed (2 Samuel 21:2- 9). Another example can be seen under King Solomon in 1 Kings 2:29-34. Most shedding of innocent blood is not redeemed in time before God imparts his vengeance as seen in Matthew 23:31-36 below:

31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation (the Jews of that day).

In 70 AD vengeance was taken upon the Jews for the innocent shedding of blood in the same geographical area where the very first murder of Abel and the last Old Testament murder of Zacharias took place beginning with the complete destruction of the temple and mile after mile of Jewish people hung on Roman crucifixions lining the road.

Under the law, justice and judgment will come once again during the Tribulation to avenge the killing of all innocent blood. Rev 6:10 says “And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth”? These are the martyred, Tribulation Saints crying out for vengeance for the shedding of their blood. God will once again require an equal exchange, blood for blood.

Speaking to Babylon in the Tribulation: “2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. Revelation 19:2
